Sir, – Emer McLysaght’s tribute to Marty Whelan’s moustache (“I’ve fallen for the charms of Marty Whelan’s moustache”, People, March 31st) brought back memories of when I sported a chevron moustache. I had just been appointed principal of a secondary school in Armagh and as I walked down the corridor, I overheard a pupil compare me to a certain German dictator. I was clean-shaven the next morning and for the last 30 years! –Yours, etc,
