Sir, – I am sure that your readers, like me, have cringed or possibly sniggered at the turmoil over the water in London over a number of weeks.
However, during this period of chaos there was no military coup, civil war, terrorism, attacks on parliament, rioting in the streets or even petrol bombs thrown at the police.
I would suggest most countries of the world will look on in envy, including some democratic countries in the West.
Long live democracy. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – With Rishi Sunak, it looks like the adults have finally taken over the room from the infants. While some may begrudge his wealth, consider that he earned his money by working in the financial markets, and had the good sense to marry more wealth.
If he can’t fix the UK’s economy, who can? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Now that Mr Sunak has addressed his UK fellow citizens with a clear message on the perilous state of the UK public finances, would it be too much to hope that he would repeat the feat with regard to a calamitous Brexit, which is of course the elephant in the room? – Yours, etc,
GERRY KIERANS,
Athgarvan,
Co Kildare.
