Sir, – The new Dodder Valley Linear Park currently stretching uninterrupted from Tempelogue Bridge to Old Bawn is nothing short of transformational for southwest Dublin. I’ve been cycling to work from Ballyboden to Tallaght for 20 years, and now my daily cycle and the quality of my mornings have been nothing short of revolutionised by this wondrous park which enables cycling.
People walking the park feel compelled to stop and chat about it and to agree unanimously that this stunning new facility has transformed the whole region and the lives of countless thousands of people.
It is rare these days to be delivered such an unequivocal societal “gift”, but in this instance, all local TDs, councillors and South Dublin County Council have pulled it off spectacularly.
They deserve all the credit and applause they receive, and one hopes that local councils everywhere in Ireland and indeed across Europe will come and behold this surely by now national treasure, perhaps to replicate it elsewhere.

The Guildford Four’s Paddy Armstrong: ‘People thought I was going to be bitter and twisted when I came out of prison’
The daily lives of countless people have been transformed for the better, and one can only now hope that the plans to extend it toward the Liffey can quickly come to fruition for all living along those stages of the route. – Yours, etc,
