A woman is in a serious condition in hospital today after she and a teenage girl were thrown from a high-speed funfair ride in Dublin.

The woman (28) and the young girl (13) are understood to have been flung from the Waltzer ride, which is made up of a number of cars that spin individually while rotating around a central point, shortly after 8pm yesterday in Blanchardstown.

The woman is in a critical but stable condition in James Connolly Memorial Hospital.

The girl also thrown from the ride was taken to Temple Street Hospital but has since been released.

The Funfest carnival runs in the west Dublin suburb annually, and yesterday was the final night of the week-long show this year. It is understood to be operated by a Co Kildare-based company.
