A YOUNG UK woman, who was in Galway city with friends for a hen party on Saturday night, was seriously assaulted in the early hours of yesterday.

The woman, in her early 20s, is being treated in University College Hospital Galway and is recovering from her injuries.

It is understood the incident happened in the Newcastle area after the woman went there by taxi with a man from a nightclub in the city.

Det Insp Gerry Roche said some taxi drivers, working in Galway city in the early hours of yesterday, may be able to help them with their inquiries.

“A taxi, a red Avensis car with an 04 registration number, is understood to have picked up a number of people from outside Coyotes nightclub in the city at about 3.08am.

“We are also very anxious to find another taxi driver who picked up this injured person who was wearing a very distinctive red jump suit. It was three quarters length and was off the left shoulder. She was with a male when picked up and they were dropped off in the Newcastle area.”

The man gardaí are seeking is in his early 20s. He is between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in in height, of thin build with short brown hair. He was clean shaven and wore blue jeans, a white shirt and white runners. Anyone with information should contact Galway Garda station at 091-538000.
