A woman has died and two others were seriously injured following a two-car collision on the N3, two miles north of Cavan at approximately 8.45am this morning.
The driver of one of the cars, a 48 year old woman was fatally injured in the crash. She was the only occupant of the car and was taken to Cavan General Hospital.
The female driver and the female passenger of the second car received serious injuries and were taken to Cavan General Hospital.
The N3 Cavan/Dublin Rd remains closed between the roundabout (connecting with the N55 Granard Rd) and Butlers Bridge until further notice. Diversions are in place.
Gardaí at Cavan Garda Station wish to appeal for anyone who was travelling on the Cavan bypass between 8.30am and 8.50am and may have witnessed this accident, to contact them at 049 - 4368800.
