Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed a serious assault on a teenage boy on the outskirts of Limerick city on Friday night to come forward

The 16-year-old remains in a critical condition in hospital in Limerick this morning after the assault.

He was assaulted on the forecourt of a petrol station in the Corbally area of the city at about 9.45pm.

He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

A male aged in his late teens was arrested at the scene and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Henry St Garda station.
