Jonny Wilkinson will captain England for the first time on Sunday after Martin Johnson was ruled out of the Six Nations clash with Italy at Twickenham.

England coach Clive Woodward said Johnson had a slight Achilles injury which required rest in time for England's clash with Scotland on March 22nd.

"Martin will not play any part in the game against Italy," said Woodward.

"This is a huge honour for Jonny. He's been vice-captain for a number of internationals, captained his club Newcastle Falcons and I know it's a challenge he will relish."
