A WEXFORD man pleaded guilty to possession of a magnum revolver and ammunition at the Special Criminal Court, Dublin, yesterday.

Joseph O’Brien (27), of Cherryorchard Heights, Enniscorthy, pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a Smith Wesson .41 magnum revolver and ammunition at the Promenade, Enniscorthy, on September 22nd, 2011.

O’Brien was arrested along with Joseph Mooney (43) and David Rockett (29) after an investigation into the activities of dissident republicans in Wexford, Waterford and Clare.

Mr Mooney, of Cullinagh, Kilmeadan, Co Waterford, is charged with unlawful possession of three mortar-firing tubes at his home on September 22nd, 2011. Mr Rockett, of Grawn Lower, Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford, is charged with unlawful possession of three improvised explosive devices.

Mr Justice Paul Butler, presiding, remanded O’Brien in custody to appear for sentencing on February 24th. He remanded the other two men on continuing bail until March 2nd.
