Alan McManus became the third Scottish player to reach the last 16 of the Regal Scottish Open but only after an epic clash with Northern Ireland's Patrick Wallace today.

McManus, the world number 15, won through 5-4 after four hours and 31 minutes, including a 64-minute deciding frame.

Earlier, Paul Hunter was knocked out at the first hurdle. He lost 5-3 to 19-year-old Mark Selby.

The match swung away from Hunter in the seventh frame after the duo shared the opening six frames.

Selby fluked a red to begin a frame-winning clearance of 67.

He then added runs of 30 and 42 in frame eight to progress to a last-16 meeting against Matthew Stevens.

Stevens defeated Thailand's James Wattana 5-3

World number 53 Selby first came to the fore last season when he reached the semi-finals of the China Open, defeating Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan along the way.
