Vaccination policy sought

An animal welfare group has called on the Minister for Agriculture to consider vaccination

An animal welfare group has called on the Minister for Agriculture to consider vaccination. The director of Compassion in World Farming Ireland said vaccination offered a method of controlling the disease rather than mass culling.

In a letter to the Minister, Ms Mary-Ann Bartlett said scenes of mass culling were deeply distressing, "seriously damaging to the image of meat production," and did "not appear to be effective in controlling the disease".
