London - Greenpeace activists called off protests at a North Sea oil rig yesterday but promised to continue action against US oil companies to draw attention to President Bush's rejection of the Kyoto climate change pact. Campaigner Paul Horsman told Reuters from aboard a Greenpeace vessel heading for the Netherlands that the protests had forced an oil rig to halt production for 36 hours.

"We have made our point, and this will be the last action of a series carried out while George Bush was in Europe," Mr Horsman said. "But we have decided we will go back and plan for activities against the US oil industry before the Bonn summit on Kyoto in July."
