UN votes for arms embargo

United Nations - With only China abstaining, the Security Council voted 14-0 yesterday to impose an arms embargo on Yugoslavia to force a peaceful settlement in Serbia's troubled Kosovo province. Kosovo, which has a 90 per cent ethnic Albanian majority, was the scene of a recent crackdown by Yugoslav police against separatists in which at least 80 people were killed.
