The Bank of England has decided to leave interest rates unchanged at 4 per cent for the seventh consecutive month.

The widely-expected decision leaves interest rates at their lowest rate for some 40 years.

However, with buoyant retail and housing markets a rate rise is believed to be imminent by observers.

The minutes of today's meeting will be published on June 19th.
