Kampala - President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, reacting to a UN report accusing Uganda of looting Congo's wealth, announced yesterday he would withdraw from a UN-sponsored peace process in the country.

"I have now decided to recommend to the High Command, the Army Council, the government and the parliament that Ugandan forces withdraw completely from Congo and also from the Lusaka Process," Mr Museveni said in an article published in the state-owned Sunday Vision.

Ugandan officials said Mr Museveni had announced the proposed withdrawal in response to a UN report published earlier this month that accused Uganda, Rwanda and rebel allies of plundering their vast neighbour, the Democratic Republic of Congo.
