Tyrone school alert declared a hoax

A suspect device found outside a school in County Tyrone has been declared an elaborate hoax by police.

A suspect device found outside a school in County Tyrone has been declared an elaborate hoax by police.

The suspicious object was found outside the gates of the Convent Grammar School in Strabane at 7.15 a.m. and British army bomb experts were called in to examine the device.  Shortly before 9 a.m. they declared the device a hoax.

The security alert led to a number of people being evacuated from their homes in the nearby Curly Hill Road area.

School principal Mr Vicent Power described the planting of the device as "deplorable".

There is a second security alert at a school in Dungannon. The main entrance to the Integrated College on the Gortmerron Link road is closed. Pupils making traveling to the school are advised to use the Coolhill Estate entrance.
