Gardaí in Midleton have appealed to the public for assistance following the theft of over €50,000 worth of tyres in a break-in in the town over the weekend.

Thieves broke through the roof of a premises at Knockgriffin Industrial Estate sometime between 5pm on Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday and made off with a large number of tyres.

Gardaí are still working to establish the exact value of what was taken but believe over 600 car tyres may have been taken with the value conservatively put at at least €50,000.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area late on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning to contact them.

They have also appealed to anyone who is offered high range car tyres at low prices to contact them in confidence at Midleton on 021-4621550.
