Two men escaped serious harm when their micro-light aircraft crashed into an estuary at the mouth of the river Boyne shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday.

The aircraft's single engine cut out approximately 30 minutes after take-off from the townland of Baltray, two miles north of Drogheda.

The pilot steered the aircraft away from the river and brought it down on a nearby beach.

The two men were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where their condition was described as comfortable.
