An Irish national is reported to be in custody in Britain in relation to investigations into the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

In Northern Ireland, a man was arrested on the orders of Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture officials investigating the foot-and-mouth crisis.

He was detained by the RUC in Banbridge, County Down.

The arrest came hours after the department confirmed Northern Ireland's first outbreak of the disease.
