Two killed in Cork collision

An elderly couple have been killed and at least five other people injured in a three car collision on the main Cork to Macroom…

An elderly couple have been killed and at least five other people injured in a three car collision on the main Cork to Macroom Road.

A woman driver in her late 60s and her husband in his 70s were fatally injured in the three car collision near Lissarda.

The couple were travelling towards Cork city when their car was in collision with a car heading west towards Macroom.

It’s understood that the two have been pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which happened at Stage Cross at around 6pm

A couple and their two children in the car heading west were injured but their injuries are not described as life threatening.

A third car also heading west towards Macroom was also involved in the collision but the driver was not seriously injured.

Gardai and the HSE emergency services are at the scene as are two units of the Cork County Fire Service from Macroom and Ballincollig.

Gardai from Macroom have closed off the road and diversions are in place via Coachford.
