Two people have been arrested in Dublin following the discovery of a submachine gun and a quantity of drugs during searches conducted as part of an investigation into organised crime in the city.

A man in his early 30s and woman in her early 20s were held following the search of a house in Donaghmede, Dublin 13, at 9.30 this morning.

Members of the Garda's Organised Crime Unit searched the house and recovered 3 kilos of mixing agents.

An Uzi machine gun, ammunition, and 10,000 esctasy tablets were found in a subsequent search of a car.

Gardaí have valued the drugs at €50,000.

The man is being detained in Coolock Garda station and the woman is being detained in Raheny Garda station. Both are being quetioned under section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
