Two fatalities on roads at weekend

A 19-year-old woman was one of two people who died on the roads at the weekend.

A 19-year-old woman was one of two people who died on the roads at the weekend.

Mary Davey, from Coldwood, Craughwell, Co Galway, died in a single-vehicle crash near the entrance to Westside Shopping Centre in Galway city at about 3.30am on Saturday.

Ms Davey was the driver of the car which crashed. Two others in the car were injured.

The road where the incident occurred has been undergoing a realignment for the past year and a half.

Meanwhile, a man died in Co Tyrone after another single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning. It happened on the A5 Omagh to Newtownstewart road at about 1am. Police have appealed to anyone who was on the A5 at that time, or for witnesses, to contact them.
