Tuam man in court on charge of manslaughter

A man appeared before Galway District Court yesterday charged with the manslaughter of a Chinese restaurant owner

A man appeared before Galway District Court yesterday charged with the manslaughter of a Chinese restaurant owner. Mr Michael Duffy (20), of Gilmartin Road, Tuam, Co Galway, was charged with killing Mr Kwok Keung Song between 1 a.m. on October 13th, and 5 p.m. on October 17th, at The Square, Tuam.

Mr Kwok Keung Song (50) died at University College Hospital on Friday afternoon following a fracas early on the previous Monday morning.

Mr Duffy was remanded on bail on his own surety of £1,000 and an independent surety of £5,000, to appear before Tuam District Court on November 7th.

Det Sgt Seamus Ryan said he arrested Mr Duffy at his home at 11.55 a.m. on Sunday.

On the application of Supt Bill Fennell, Judge John Garavan made it a condition of Mr Duffy's bail that he report to Tuam Garda station daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and that he reside with his parents at Gilmartin Road.

Three others have been released after they were arrested over the weekend by gardai investigating the death of Mr Kwok Keung Song. Files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
