Traffic restrictions: Dublin, Cork, Cashel and Fethard

DUBLIN: CLOSED TO TRAFFIC : Parnell Square East and North Frederick Street are closed to traffic until further notice

DUBLIN: CLOSED TO TRAFFIC: Parnell Square East and North Frederick Street are closed to traffic until further notice. There is pedestrian access in the vicinity of Parnell Square. Barriers are being put in place along routes throughout the city. Bicycles locked to railings, fences, lamp posts etc, along routes with barriers will be removed.

MONDAY

Other than very localised restrictions close to sites being visited, there are no traffic restrictions planned for the city centre. The Phoenix Park will be open to through traffic, but no parking will be permitted within the park. The zoo will be open.

TUESDAY

Prior to noon: No restrictions up to midday in Dublin for commuter traffic, other than on O’Connell Street and Parnell Square where there will be no access for vehicles from 6am (pedestrian access permitted).

From 11:30am: traffic management measures will be put in place on the N4/M50 interchange (Lucan). Traffic travelling towards the city will be diverted north or south along the M50 to give drivers options to access the city centre along the north or south city routes.

Access to Palmerstown Village and Ballyfermot is via Liffey Valley, Coldcut Road.

Non-motorway traffic should divert either as above or at the Woodie’s interchange along the Outer Ring Road.

People should plan their journey along the motorway and identify which junction provides them with the best route to their final destination. Dublin City Council Orbital Route signage will assist.

M50 North

Junction 6 (Blanchardstown): access via Cabra, Phibsboro, North Circular Road.

Junction 5 (Finglas): access Finglas, Glasnevin North.

Junction 4 (Ballymun): access Ballymun, Glasnevin.

Junction 3 (M1): access Santry, Whitehall, Drumcondra.

M50 South

Junction 9 (Red Cow): access via Ballyfermot, Kilmainham, Inchicore.

Junction 10 (Ballymount): access Walkinstown, Kimmage.

Junction 11 (Tallaght): access Templeogue, Terenure, Harold’s Cross, Rathmines.

Junction 12: access Rathfarnham, Terenure, Harold’s Cross, Rathmines.

Junction 13: access Dundrum, Milltown, Clonskeagh.

Junction 14 Access Dundrum, Milltown, Clonskeagh.

From 11:30am – 12:30pm: additional traffic volumes can be expected on the N7 (Dublin-bound) and the M50 motorway, as rolling road closures are put in place to facilitate the movement of the VIP.

From midday: additional traffic restrictions will be rolled out over the course of the afternoon in Dublin city centre.

These will primarily impact on traffic travelling along and across the north and south quays and through the Phoenix Park.

From 5pm tomorrow there are no significant traffic restrictions planned for Dublin city centre, including the Phoenix Park.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18th

From 8am: traffic management measures will be put in place on the N4/M50 interchange (Lucan). Traffic travelling towards the city will be diverted north or south along the M50 motorway to give drivers options to access the city centre from the north or south city routes.

From 9am: additional traffic restrictions will be rolled out and continue over the course of Wednesday afternoon and evening in Dublin city centre.

The Europa League final will take place in the Dublin Arena, Lansdowne Road. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

Additional traffic volumes can be expected in the area.

CORK

FRIDAY, MAY 20th

From 10am: a number of streets in the city centre will be closed to traffic.

The outer routes around the city will remain open.

Pedestrians will have access to the city centre with reduced crossing points due to crowd control barriers.

Other restrictions to pedestrians will be in place at appointed locations.

A park and ride service will be operational from the Black Ash Park and Ride Facility to Lavitts Quay. Access to the facility will be via Mick Barry Road from the Tramore Road direction. All Bus Éireann schedules can be found at buseireann.ie

The city centre areas of South Link Road (inbound), Station Road, Anglesea Street, South Mall, Grand Parade, Patrick Street, Academy Street, Washington Street, Sheares Street and Dyke Parade will be closed to traffic from 10am.

No parking will be allowed on this route from 6pm on Thursday. This will also affect deliveries and services as barriers will be placed along the route.

Arrangements should be made to have deliveries prior to 6pm on Thursday. The service providers in the city centre have been consulted and are aware of this restriction.

There will be no pedestrian access to the following streets between noon and 4pm.

Princess Street (Upper, both sides), Grand Parade, Junction of Oliver Plunkett Street to Patrick Street,

St Augustine Street to Tuckey Street, junction of Tuckey Street and Grand Parade to Electric Bar South Mall, Washington Street (both sides), junction Grand Parade to South Main Street.

CASHEL and FETHARD

Traffic flow restrictions M8 motorway May 16th to May 20th: From noon on May 16th there will be traffic flow restrictions on the M8 motorway for a distance of 10km from the northern side of Junction 7 to the southern side of Junction 9. The speed limit will be reduced to 100km/h.

All traffic will be reduced to one lane, which will travel on the outside lane of the carriageways both northbound and southbound.

Appropriate signage will be put in place on the northbound lane at Junction 10 Cahir (about 5km south of Cashel) and at the 2km sign for Cashel.

Signs will also be placed on the southbound lanes at Junction 6, Horse and Jockey, 5km north of Cashel and at the 2km sign for Cashel.

THURSDAY, MAY 19TH

M8 Motorway

From 6pm the only access to Cashel will be from Junction 9. All junctions will reopen early afternoon on Friday, May 20th. All entry and exit points to Cashel at interchange 7, 8 and 9 remain open to all vehicular traffic until Thursday, May 19th.

CASHEL TOWN

From 6pm Thursday, May 19th, to midday Friday, May 20th

On Thursday, May 19th, at 6pm no traffic will be allowed to proceed through the outer cordon at Cashel, an average distance of 7km around Cashel.

Access through the cordon will only be allowed to persons who hold a valid pass. Diversionary signs will be placed at all junctions.

FETHARD

From 6pm Thursday, May 19th, to 2pm Friday, May 20th

On Thursday at 6pm the outer cordon restrictions will be put in place in Fethard which will allow for normal business to continue there. A similar cordon will exist in Killenaule allowing normal business to continue. Local roads will be diverted accordingly.

Junctions will be manned by gardaí from 6pm on Thursday and diversionary signs will be in place.
