Three dead after road accidents in Kerry and Meath

A motorcyclist in his late 30s has died after a collision with a pedestrian in Co Kerry this afternoon.

The accident happened at 4.40 p.m. at Monayalley, Tralee. The pedestrian was seriously injured.

Earlier, a man and his son died in a four-vehicle crash outside Enfield, Co Meath. Joseph Jones (59) of Rahan, Edenderry, Co Offaly and his 31-year-old son, Garry, died in the crash at around 9.10 a.m. on the N4 two miles west of Enfield. The crash involved two cars, a 4x4 and a truck.

Elsewhere, gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a crash in Co Clare yesterday that killed one man and injured five. The collision between the Volvo 800 and Toyota Carina took place on the N18 at Gortaficka, Crusheen, at about 6.30 p.m.

The dead man, the driver of one of the cars, was named today as James (Jamie) O'Connor (57), from Tubber, Co Clare. Five women in the second car were injured and taken to Ennis General Hospital. One has since been taken to Limerick Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The man who died in yesterday morning's crash in the Dublin suburb of Finglas has been named as Michael Hughes (65) from Glenview Park, Tallaght.

Today's deaths brings the number of fatalities on Irish roads this year to 48, up eleven on the same period last year. There were 30 deaths in January and 18 so far this month.
