Three men were charged yesterday with possessing personal details of suspected republican paramilitary leaders in Newry and Dundalk.

The charges were brought by the Stevens inquiry team which is investigating allegations of collusion between the security forces in Northern Ireland and loyalist paramilitaries.

In the dock at Belfast Magistrates Court were Mr Edward Stinton (40), from Glenmore Court, Hilden, Lisburn, Co Antrim; Mr Colin Stephen Lindsay (33), of Castlerobin Lodge, Belvoir, Belfast, and Mr Francis James Caldwell (41), of Kinbane Way, Belfast.

All three were charged that between 1987 and 1990 they had possession of documents useful to anyone planning or carrying out acts of terrorism.

The charge, brought under the anti-terrorist Emergency Provisions Act, alleged a document headed "Movement of Subversives from Dundalk area" contained the names and details of a number of men, some described as "suspect PIRA" or "suspect INLA".

They were remanded in custody until September 6th.
