A woman wrote to say that her father, aged 75, has totally accepted the fact that he will die in the next few months. But he has insisted that his family promise they will have no funeral when the time comes. He says that he has left a request in his will that there be no ceremony and nothing of what he considers empty and hypocritical goodbyes and tributes.

His family is devastated. They think that any tributes and would be sincere and merited. They want to honour him and say goodbye properly. Must they honour his wishes and have no funeral ceremony at all?
