The Limerick TD who resigned from Fianna Fail in 2003 for failing to declare his Ansbahcer account had one of two charges against him dropped at Rathkeale District Court today.

Michael Collins, now Independent Fianna Fail TD for Limerick West, was sent forward for trial on a charge of obtaining a tax clearance certificate by false pretences sometime in May of 2002.

However, the DPP dropped the charge of cheating the Office of the Collector General without explanation.

Judge Mary Halloran remanded Mr Collins on €200 bail set a date in November at the Circuit Criminal Court in Limerick for his next hearing.

Mr Collins was at the court today with members of his family.
