RIGA - Latvian President Guntis Ulmanis began talks with political parties yesterday on the resignation of the Prime, Minister, Mr Andris Shkele, in, a dispute with the president over a new finance minister.

Mr Shkele quit after Mr Ulmanis called on parliament to reject the premier's choice for finance minister, Mr Vassily Melnik, after reports that Mr Melnik had been investigated under anti-corruption laws.
