State health officials have confirmed the death of a Texas resident from swine flu, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services website.

A woman from Cameron County who had chronic underlying health conditions died earlier this week from the flu formally known as influenza H1N1, the agency said in a statement.

Cameron County is in south Texas along the border with Mexico. Texas earlier confirmed the first fatality in the US from the flu, although it involved a 22-month-old child from Mexico who was hospitalised in Houston.
