Hyderabad - Five people died after they were beaten and set alight in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh by villagers who suspected them of witchcraft, police said yesterday.

About 200 villagers stormed into the homes of the suspected sorcerers in Thimanpur village, 180km from the capital Hyderabad, and dragged them out. They were beaten and then tied to a tree and burnt alive, the official said.
