Authorities at Barcelona's airport have today cancelled more flights as storms continue to rage in northeastern Spain.
Sixteen flights were grounded today at El Prat airport, a day after flooding of the control tower led to the cancellation of over 208 flights - around a third of total anticipated traffic in and out of the airport.
As rain lightened, flights resumed between Barcelona and the capital Madrid and authorities said some 2,000 travellers stranded yesterday would be given seats on outgoing planes today.
Five main Catalan roads were also reopened to traffic.
A friendly football match between Barcelona and the second-division team Gava, where the storm has caused serious flooding, was cancelled.
The regional government yesterday enacted an emergency plan calling up all firefighters, regional police forces and the Red cross to help in rescue operations.
Subway and regional train lines have been hampered by the storm, which left Barcelona drenched in 34 liters per square meter of rain in just 15 minutes of downpour this morning.
