Stolen birds returned to Dublin Zoo

Two Moluccan Cockatoos, stolen from Dublin Zoo on Tuesday night, have been returned

Two Moluccan Cockatoos, stolen from Dublin Zoo on Tuesday night, have been returned. They were left in a box on the steps of the Veterinary College in Ballsbridge, Dublin. The pair, now back at the zoo, were still nervous, frightened and "extremely hungry", a zoo spokeswoman said last night.

The cockatoos have been at Dublin Zoo since September last year, having come from the UK, where they were confiscated by customs officials.

Mr David Fields, who cares for the birds at the zoo, described the species as "highly endangered". The pair are now in the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme.
