Wing Commander and Privateer were two of the more exceptional space combat games for PCs in recent years. When it was learned that developers Erin and Chris Roberts were working on the new game, StarLancer, many people had high expectations. Their optimism was well-founded.
StarLancer excels in almost every department. There are 12 fighters to pilot, over 20 weapons and the graphics and sound are from the top drawer. Dog fighting with Saturn in the background is visually very pleasing, and a commendable story to gives your missions more purpose.
Wing Commander fans will find it very familiar but contempt should not rear its ugly head. For the uninitiated, StarLancer is relatively simple to learn, and training missions and intuitive gameplay combine to insure you will not be a rookie for long.
