A FIREWORKS display will illuminate Dun Laoghaire pier today after 11 p.m. as part of the USS John F. Kennedy Independence Day celebrations.

Fireworks will be launched from the end of the West Pier during the 20 minute display and will be visible from Seapoint and Sandycove.

The AA has warned that traffic in Dun Laoghaire will be severely restricted. Marine Road, Crofton Road and Queens Road will all be closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the seafront area. People should use public transport as much as possible.

There will be increased capacity on off peak DART trains for passengers travelling to Dun Laoghaire. Extra late night northbound and southbound DARTs will operate tonight.

These will serve all stations on the DART line and will depart after the display between 12.15 a.m. and 12.30a.m. Family return tickets for two adults and four children under 16 will cost Pounds 5. Passengers are advised to purchase tickets before travelling to Dun Laoghaire.
