A solicitor charged with human trafficking was sent for trial yesterday.

Olaitan Ilori (36), Oak Drive, Blessington, Co Wicklow, was originally charged with trafficking one of 14 non-nationals who arrived in Ireland from Mauritius on October 25th last.

Last month, 11 new charges were brought in relation to 11 of the other people allegedly involved.

In Dublin District Court yesterday, a book of evidence was served on him and Judge Hugh O'Donnell sent him for trial to the next sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court. He extended a €10,000 bail bond, set when he was first charged, to cover his return to the Circuit Court.

Judge O'Donnell also granted free legal aid and backdated it to last October after prosecuting garda, John McCormack, confirmed that Mr Ilori was not the owner of the €7,500 cash lodgement which had been made to secure his release on bail. The money had come from his brother, who is a solicitor in Britain, Garda McCormack said.
