Free St Patrick’s Cathedral show to honour victims of violence

‘Concert for Paris’ from 8pm on Friday to mark the loss of innocent human life

A free Concert for Paris will take place at St Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin tomorrow (Friday) evening at 8pm to mark the lives lost through violence in recent weeks in France, Lebanon, Syria and all countries currently at war.

Dean of St Patrick’s, Victor Stacey, said that “while the events in Paris will be very much at the forefront of people’s minds, the past weeks have seen violent atrocities elsewhere, which have resulted in the loss of innocent human lives.

“Remembering the lives lost through violence and promoting peace and healing is part of our message in being associated with this concert.”

He continued: “There has been a significant outpouring of grief and emotion, particularly over the huge loss of lives in Paris.

“St Patrick’s increasingly is a place where people can come to remember and reflect on lives lost,” he said.

Huge interest anticipated

St Patrick’s anticipated huge interest in the concert “and would appeal to the public to register, and ensure that they bring along their ticket receipt to ensure timely access to the event”, he added.

The event is being organised by artistic director of charity orchestra Co-Orch, John Doyle, and will bring together a host of choirs, orchestras and individual musicians who will contribute their time to participate.

The programme will include French compositions, including Ravel's Pavane pour une enfante défunte and Fauré's Pavane and Requiem.

MC will be Fergus Finlay, chief executive of Barnardos.

Those who wish to attend should register to secure a ticket for Concert for Paris at stpatrickscathedral.ie.
