Karachi - The ousted Pakistani prime minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, and other officials have been accused of a criminal conspiracy to kill the chief of army staff and of attempting to hijack a plane, police officials said yesterday. They said a case had been registered against Mr Sharif, who was ousted in a military coup on October 12th by army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf.
In Islamabad it was announced that Pakistani troops killed or wounded more than 15 Indian soldiers as they repelled an Indian assault on their border post in disputed Kashmir. The military spokesman, Brig Rashid Qureshi, said the clash erupted late on Tuesday when Indian troops trying to cross the dividing Line of Control (LoC) launched an "unprovoked attack".
