There will be no relief from severe weather in the coming days and into the weekend, making driving conditions hazardous, according to Met Eireann.

Yesterday, heavy snow showers made conditions extremely difficult for motorists, particularly around Tuam, Co Galway, and in parts of Co Mayo.

Today will continue to be extremely gusty, with some wintry showers of sleet or rain across the country and the possibility of some snowfall, especially on higher ground. The sun will shine through showers over the coming days but temperatures will struggle to rise above zero.

Winds should ease off tonight but temperatures will continue to fall and ground frost may not clear in some areas.
