In Cork, a 32-year-old man lost his life at 2.30 a.m. yesterday when his motorcycle was in collision with a car in Charleville. The man who has not yet been named was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman driver of the car was not seriously injured.

In Co Kildare at Baltreacy on the Clane-to-Kilcock road, the female driver of a car was killed in a two-car collision at about 4.30 p.m. on Saturday. Her three passengers and the female driver of the second car were taken to Blanchardstown and Tallaght hospitals, where their conditions were said not to be life-threatening.

Also in Kildare, garda∅ named a woman killed in Naas on Saturday afternoon as Ms Lester Tiernan, a local woman. Ms Tiernan's car was in collision with a lorry, the driver of which was said to be uninjured.

At Banagher, Co Offaly, a 76- year-old man, Mr John Dolan, was killed when he was involved in a two-car collision at Harbour Road at 5.30 p.m. on Friday. The driver of the other car was not seriously injured.

In Co Down, two teenage girls died when the car in which they were travelling went out of control at Newtownards at 3.00 a.m. yesterday. They were Laura Ross (15) from Cumber, and Tammy Towers (16) from Dundonald.

Last night a 37-year-old man died when his car left the Collin Road outside Ballyclare, Co Antrim.

Seventeen people have been killed on the Republic's roads this month with the total so far this year numbering 318 people.

In the first nine months of this year, 301 people were killed on the State's roads, a figure which compares with 307 for the first nine months of 2000.
