A full-scale search resumed today for a fisherman washed out to sea yesterday in Co Clare.

The accident occurred shortly after 4.30pm at Tullygulleen near Cross in west Clare.

It is understood two men, who are thought to be Polish nationals, were initially washed out to sea but one was washed back on to the rocks and managed to make it to safety before raising the alarm.

A unit of the Doolin-based Irish Coastguard and a Coastguard helicopter searched for the missing man until dusk yesterday before the operation was called off.
