Chelsea captain John Terry has played down fears that he could miss the World Cup after a scan revealed no break to his right foot after a training ground incident this morning.

The centre back underwent “precautionary scan” but initial fears that he had a broken metatarsal bone eased. The player now hopes to be able to line out against Portsmouth in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Portsmouth as Chelsea look to claim the double.

In a statement Terry said: “I took a slight knock in training but with such an important match on Saturday the right course of action was to put a protective boot on my right foot and have a CT scan.

“The scan has shown there is no break and I am hoping to train tomorrow if not Friday and of course play in the FA Cup final on Saturday.”
