An assistant secretary at the Department of Agriculture, Mr James Beecher, is to chair the group set up to advise consumers on food safety, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Yates, will announce later today.
The other members of the Consumer Liaison Group will include Ms Dorothy Gallagher of the Consumers' Association of Ireland; Prof Michael Gibney, department of clinical medicine at TCD; Prof Patrick Morrissey, department of nutrition, UCD; Ms Brid O'Connor, of the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs; Ms Breda Raggett of the Irish Countrywomen's Association; and Dr Marlene Proctor, of the school of food science and environmental health, DCU.
