The RTÉ Authority is expected to appoint a temporary chairman when it meets next week.
The development comes following the resignation from the post of Mr Fintan Drury over a potential conflict of interest.
Mr Drury resigned because he believed his role at an agency representing the Ryder Cup and the European Tour conflicted with his role at RTÉ.
Minister for Communications Noel Dempsey confirmed last night that he had accepted Mr Drury's resignation.
A spokesman for Mr Dempsey, confirmed to ireland.comtoday that the process to find a permanent chairman for the authority will get under way soon.
In the meantime, RTÉ has confirmed the authority, which acts as RTÉ's board, making policy and guiding corporate direction, will select a temporary chairman when it meets next Thursday for its monthly meeting.
Mr Drury was appointed as chairman of the nine-member RTÉ authority seven months ago. He is also chairman of Paddy Power bookmakers and an agent for former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr and international footballer Liam Miller.
