Belfast’s newly rebuilt Lyric Theatre – designed by Dublin architects O’Donnell and Tuomey – has been shortlisted for one of architecture’s most prestigious awards.
The theatre is in the running for the Stirling prize – widely considered the leading industry accolade in Britain and Ireland – along with five other projects, including London’s Olympic Stadium.
The Royal Institute of British Architects, patrons of the Stirling Prize, said the building had been shortlisted for the “quality of the interior spaces, its sensitive response to a challenging site and the expansion of the Lyric’s ability to function literally behind the scenes . . . a stunning accomplishment and a pleasure to spend time in”.
