A Congolese refugee charged with assaulting a garda is to face three additional charges

A Congolese refugee charged with assaulting a garda is to face three additional charges. Mr Belmondo Wantete (25), who was remanded on continuing bail at Dublin District Court yesterday, is accused of assaulting a second garda, obstructing a garda in his duty and possession of a large baton.

The charges relate to an incident which occurred last month when gardai raided Mr Wantete's house in Drimnagh. Mr Wantete appeared in court earlier this week on separate charges of failing to carry identity papers.
