An undertaking was given in the High Court yesterday that no steps would be taken to deport two Moroccans, Mr Jaquad Khallifi and Mr Hamid Essalmi, who arrived in the State 10 days ago.

The men are seeking an injunction restraining the Minister for Justice from removing them from the jurisdiction until their applications for refugee status are considered.

Mr Feichin McDonagh, counsel for the Minister, said the High Court had granted an interim order on January 8th. The Minister would give an undertaking not to take steps to deport the men until legal proceedings were completed.

Miss Justice Carroll granted the men an adjournment for two weeks.
