Rock the Vote
Rock the Vote launches its campaign next week to get young people informed and voting on the Lisbon Treaty.
The group, whose website www.rockthevote.ie received 2.8 million hits during last year's general election campaign, says it hopes to encourage young people to vote by clearing up some of the "confusion" about the referendum.
"We hear from so many sources that young people are apathetic about this referendum they are not," Rock the Vote says.
"The real problem is that young people are tired of partisan rhetoric and so far we just aren't being given the information we need to make an informed decision."
It launches its campaign on Monday at 10am at Grand Canal Square in Dublin. Performances by YouTube "dance sensation" Sophie Merry and Dublin rockers The Flaws are promised.
Labour youth
Members of the Labour Party's youth wing have set up a website outlining their opposition to the Lisbon treaty. The party leadership is campaigning for a Yes vote but Séamas De Faoite, Labour's youth officer for Dublin Mid-West, claims a "sizeable proportion" of members in its youth wing are against the treaty.
He set up a a Bebo page, Labour against Lisbon, to rally the troops, but he will not be voting himself - he is just 16 years old.
"'The wording is more Stephen Hawking than JK Rowling." Willie O'Dea accepts the treaty is not an easy read.
