The jury in the corruption trial of the former Dublin city and county assistant manager, Mr George Redmond, was sent to a hotel overnight after failing to reach a verdict yesterday.

Judge Michael White sent the jury away just before 7.30 p.m. on day 12 of the trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. It will resume its deliberations at 10 a.m. today.

The jury was deliberating for some six hours when Judge White directed that it cease consideration of the case overnight. He had earlier told jurors they could bring in a majority verdict on either or both counts of 11-1 or 10-2 if they could not reach unanimous verdicts.

Mr Redmond (79) has pleaded not guilty to two charges alleging he got £10,000 relating to the sale of a right-of-way from Dublin County Council at the Lucan bypass.

He also denies that as an agent he corruptly accepted for himself a gift of money as an inducement or reward for showing favour to another in relation to the said principal's affairs, namely the sale of the right-of-way.
