A record number of second-hand cars were imported into the State and licenced in April as car-buyers continued to look to the North and Britain.
According to data from the Central Statistics Office today 6,032 second hand private cars were licenced that month, the highest monthly total since records began in 1973.
The number of second-hand cars imported in April surpassed the 5,558 new cars licenced. In April last year 17,587 new cars were licenced, 68.4 per cent higher than this year’s total.
The most popular make of new car sold in April was Volkswagen (7,83), followed by Toyota (737), Ford (702) and Nissan.
